THE TALLEST STATUE IN ASIA

The image of the statue shown here is a major attraction for people visiting Rourkela. It is situated within a   large complex of temples known as Hanuman Vatika. The statue measures 74 feet and 9 inches and is reportedly the tallest one in Asia. It was inaugurated on 23rd February, 1994.

Suchindram Temple Tamil Nadu  India

The temple at Suchindram is dedicated to the Trio - Vishnu, Siva and Brahma. Inside the temple, the shrine of the gigantic Hanuman attracts both eyes and hearts. The idol represents the Viswarupa of Hanuman as shown to Goddess Sita in Asoka Vana in Lanka. This huge idol exhibits the fine craftsmanship and imagination of the sculptor. Pilgrims pour Ganges water and rose water over the head of Hanuman and drink the holy Tirtha that washes the feet of the idol.

The name Suchindram (Such means pure; Indram means referring to Indra) connotes the place where Indra was purified of his sins by thrusting his hand into the boiling ghee, for his misbehavior towards Ahalya, the wife of Sage Gautama.

Bhakta Hanuman Namakkal Salem TN India 

50 kms south of Salem is the town of Namakkal famous for its Vishnu temple, the fort and the massive Hanuman carved out of a single stone. The town lies at the foot of a rock, 200 mts. high and ½ mile in circumference. There is a fort on the rock. There are 2 rock cut cave temples dedicated to Narasimhaswamy and Ranganathaswamy.

Sri Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy   Guntakal

Sri Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy Temple is in the village of Kasapuram of Guntakal town of Anantapur District. This temple is a very old and  existed from 15th century A.D. The image was installed by Sri Vyasaraya as ordained by Anjeneya Swamy in his dream. The temple has been renovated in 1977.

The story

In 15th century A.D Sri Krishnadevaraya, the emperor of Vijayanagara kingdom had to desist from ruling the kingdom for some short spell to overcome from the bad omen "Kuhoo". During this interim period Sri Vyasaraya ruled and returned back the reigns of the kingdom to Sri Krishnadevaraya. Fully contended with shouldering the responsibility for a while he commenced his journey to the down south to propogate the philosophy of prayers and offerings to God. He was deeply devoted to Sri Anjaneya Swamy and would not touch a drop a water without offering prayers to him. He installed and consecrated the images of Sri Anjaneya Swamy in every village he visited. During his sojourn at Chippagiri, Sri Vyasaraya dreamt Sri Anjaneya Swamy asking him to install his image in certain place of the village of Nethikallu which he liked very much, where the dried neem stick sprouts. In obedience of the above, Sri Vyasaraya proceeded to Nethikallu and installed the image of Sri Anjaneya at the selected place. Then onwards the village came into prominence and Sri Anjaneya is worshipped as Sri Nettikanti Anjaneya Swamy.

Bade Hanumanji  idol

The idol of Shri Bade Hanumanji, at the Triveni Sangam Kshetra of Prayag is very unique. It is the only temple where the statue of the deity is in a  reclining posture. Situated a few feet below ground level, local people belief has it that the Ganges floods  the temple once a year to touch the feet of the deity.

The story

In the city of Kannauj there was a very rich trader who unfortunately  had no children. This trader went towards the hills of Vindhyachal to construct a temple of Hanuman to fulfil his wish of getting a son. In the chain of hills of Vindhyachal that trader had constructed a huge statue of Hanuman out of stone. He decided to bathe that statue of Hanuman at many places of pilgrimage. While bathing this statue of Hanuman at various Teerthsthals, he ultimately arrived at Sangam Kshetra of Prayag.  While he was taking rest in the night he dreamt that if he leaves this statue at this holy place his all the wishes will be fulfilled. At the dawn of the day he decided to work on the lines of the previous night dream. Thus leaving that statue at Prayag Kshetra that rich trader left for his city Kannauj. As the time passed that rich trader got a son born to his wife by the kindness of Shri Bade Hanuman.

The statue remained submerged in the waters and got stuck under the sands. After some time a pinancing Mahatma Shri Balgiri Ji arrived at Sangam Kshetra in the holy month of Magha to have a pious dip in Triveni. One day when that pinancing Mahatma was piercing his Trishul in the sand, he got some inkling of that statue. He removed soil and sand from that place and unearthed the statue. He made efforts to bring that statue in a standing posture but even after trying much hard, he was unable succeed. It was believed that Shri Bade Hanuman did not want to be removed from that particular place and all the efforts to remove the same were stopped. Consequently the statue of Shri Bade Hanuman was left at the place where it was found by Shri Balgiri Ji Maharaj and a temple was subsequently constructed.

Salasar Hanumanji  Rajasthan

Salasar is in district Churu of Rajasthan on the Jaipur - Bikaner highway. The idol of Hanuman in the Salasar Temple is considered as 'Swayambhu' (self creation) and is a major pilgrim centre.

The story

In 1811 in the village of Asota in Rajasthan, a  farmer ploughing his field found a Hanuman idol in the field buried in the sand.The news of appearance of Lord Hanuman spread in the village  immediately  and devotees started offering prayers. One day the Thakur of Asota, in his dream was asked by Hanuman to send the idol to Salasar.

On the same night a devotee of Lord Hanuman, Mohandas of Salasar saw Lord  in his dream and he was told by the Lord about the idol of asota. He immediately send a massage to the Thakur of Asota. The Thakur was surprised about the coincidence and sent the idol to Salasar.

The idol reached Salasar on  a bullock cart. Arguments went on about the location to place the the idol. Finally it was decided that the idol will be placed at the location where the bullock cart will stop automatically. The bullock-cart stopped at sand mound (Dhore) and the idol was located there.

It is believed that Devotee Mohandas and his widow sister Bai Kani had the darshan of Lord Hanuman many times. The Samadi of Sister Bai Kani and Mohandas are near the temple of Lord Hanuman. The devotees worship there too.

Sri   Sanjeevi  Varadha  Anjaneyar  Swamy temple, popularly known as GET WELL ANJANEYAR is in the Getwell Hospital complex at Tirunelveli.

Chenduram is the prasadham given here. It is a Unani Medicine, extracted from earth (naturally available in North India ) and it has medicinal effect.

Viswaroopa anjaneya, Nerul, Navi Mumbai 

The thirty-three feet idol, "Vishwaroopa Anjaneya Swamy", in a standing posture, which is made out of a single granite stone at South Indian Education Society, Nerul New Bombay is the tallest monolithic statue in India. It took one year to complete this statue and it weighs fifty five tons.

The Hanuman idol was made near Chennai and was transported by road.  The idol stands on a lotus pedestal, with hands folded in prayer, eyes are seen in meditation. He wears kundalam in ears, keuryaha (armlet), three kankanas (bangles), thandai in His lotus feet.
